Joe Biden, the likely Democrat nominee for president, joked in an interview Friday that if a black American opts to vote for President Trump over him then "you ain't black."
The comment made its way around social media and was praised by some supporters who agreed with him and took issue with white voters who were riled up while others condemned the comment as an example of Democrats taking their vote for granted.
Buck Sexton, the host of "The Buck Sexton Show" said he noticed another element about Biden's comment and how it is further proof that his entire candidacy is wrapped in a safe cocoon due to the fact he served as vice president to Barack Obama.
“All you have to do is have Barack Obama pick you as his vice president and, forever, the Democratic Party will be invested in perpetuating a really false legacy about you,” Sexton said. He continued, “Because you’re attached to the Obama presidency, therefore you must be protected.”
Biden’s comment came during an interview with Charlamagne Tha God, the host of “The Breakfast Club.” Biden was asked about his campaign’s outreach to black voters and brought up how he essentially turned his campaign around with the black community’s support in South Carolina. Sixty-one percent of the state’s African-American voters came out to support him despite a still-crowed field at the time. There were still questions about his appeal after tense exchanges with Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Ca., over “bussing” and his support of the 1994 crime bill.
“I kicked everybody’s—excuse me,” he said, as though he was stopping himself from cursing. Charlamagne responded, “I need you to say that!”
Sexton called Biden a “C- politician” who has been entrenched in the D.C. game forever. The host has long stated that Biden is likely not the party’s preferred choice to take on Trump in November. But a shared hatred can be unifying. Top women in the party are willing to put aside credible sexual assault allegations leveled at the former vice president in order to make sure Trump is out after one term.
Sexton said one of the benefits that comes with being a “swamp” Democrat like Biden is the media’s willingness to protect you.
“It’s like walking around with a cloak of invincibility,” Sexton said. “All you have to do is be a Democrat and in politics today there’s nothing you can do to get you fired from your job.”
