It was a lose-lose situation if there ever was one for a sitting president.
A never-seen-before, deadly virus emerges in Wuhan, China that spreads rapidly across the globe and forces the world economy to essentially shut down for months with no end in sight.
President Trump was forced to make difficult decisions based on unproven science about the best ways to keep Americans safe and prevent the economy from contracting to depression levels.
No matter what he did, what he closed down, how many masks he wore, Democrats were going to use his response to the virus as a political weapon in 2020. And you cannot blame them, politically speaking. Despite causing irreparable damage to the country’s psyche, Democrats are so fixated on embarrassing Trump in 2020 the country's morale through a pandemic will have to wait. Trump faced one of the toughest challenges in the country's history and if his response was even remotely praised, Joe Biden might as well stay in his basement.
“Now there’s a new narrative,” Buck Sexton, the host of “The Buck Sexton Show,” said on Monday. “And it’s the narrative you’re going to hear every day from now until the election.”
He said Democrats are going to train their focus on Trump and his “lack of leadership” during the U.S.’s COVID-19 response.
“That’s what they’re going to tell you,” he said. “As if Trump was able, if he had done things differently, he would have been able to stop the virus. This is absolutely as shameless and predictable as any other narrative you could ever find about American politics right now.”
Sexton said that the entire discussion about Trump’s response lacks any integrity. He said Democrats swoon over earlier clips when Trump seemed to downplay the virus’ threat in the U.S. and said it would eventually burn out. But Democrats seem to have lost the clips of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country’s top disease expert, who said very similar things about the virus in its early days.
What has been remarkable in all of this, is the complete lack of ideas from the Democrat Party. Politicians on that side talk about the “need for more testing,” mask-wearing and closing churches while they praise Black Lives Matter protesters literally breaking every single coronavirus guideline. (Except for the anarchists who wear masks to stop disease transmission and to conceal their identities from police.)
“People don’t care,” Sexon said. “They want to believe what they want to believe. And that is that Trump is the root of all evil, the root of the virus and we need to get rid of him.”
